Just off the coast (c. 10km) from Peniche and easily accessible by boat, are the spectacular Berlenga islands, with their towering cliffs sheltering crystal waters. It's the perfect spot for year-round diving or deep-sea fishing.
Classed as a nature reserve, is a nesting sight for various species of sea birds and you will also find various reptiles and other animals.
In the larger island (Berlanga Grande) there is an ancient fort and a lighthouse plus several beaches and caves which make an excellent spot for a day trip.
Boat trips leave Peniche harbour and the journey takes on 30 minutes. You can choose to return in the evening or stay the night in the fortress. There is also a restaurant on the island.
